Civic Engagement:
Defending Democratic Principles
When the Knesset voted to exclude MK Ayman Odeh, our community highlighted a broader concern: regardless of political disagreements, removing an elected representative for their statements raises serious questions about democratic norms.
We supported a community-led public petition calling on members of the Knesset to reconsider this decision and to reflect on its implications for Israel’s democratic institutions. The petition gathered over 80 signatures, and many community members chose to personally reach out to the Knesset members as part of a civic engagement effort.
Over time, activists and community members have initiated additional civic petitions addressing a range of public issues. In parallel, community members also took part in hands-on volunteering initiatives, including volunteer trips to Haifa and Kibbutz Kisufim.
Each of these initiatives reflects our broader mission: to strengthen democratic culture, encourage informed participation, and support citizens who engage thoughtfully with issues shaping Israel’s public life. Through education, civic dialogue, and collective action — including volunteering at the local level — we aim to keep participation, empathy, and accountability at the heart of a resilient democracy.
